Bucket List Adventures vs. Milestones in Life…which holds more value?

I’m happy to report that my 40th birthday celebration accomplished both!  Who wouldn’t want to tour the luscious hills of Napa while drinking in all the great wines of the territory?  Add staying in a five star spa & resort nestled in the middle of a vineyard for three nights and I’m there!  It was either that or some sort of party celebration, at home.  Needless to say, we were Napa bound.

So, my list of wineries to visit exceeded the amount of time I had.  One can only, realistically, consume so much wine in a day!  It was also my first visit to Napa so I had to figure out the lay of the land as far as a tour map goes.

We hit a few of the big names: Cake Bread, Franciscan, Pine Ridge, Chimney Rock, Mondavi…and they of course did not disappoint.  The grounds were lovely, hosts were warm and welcoming and the wines, delicious.

But I have to say my favorite wine was a wine I’d never heard of or tasted.  It’s called PlumpJack.  It was one of the last visits for the day and I think we actually stumbled upon it.  We stayed there the longest of any other tour, tasted some amazing flights of wines and basically fell in love with the place.  We signed up for their wine club and have been enjoying it ever since.

So, I love good wine…but even more than that I love to snow ski.  Especially, in Lake Tahoe, CA, specifically the North Shore.  Does life get much better when you can combine two of your favorite things at once?  Well it will for me!

On my bucket list, right next to Napa scratched through, is another birthday celebration for this year including wine and skiing…at the PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn!  It is tucked at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in North Lake Tahoe, just steps away from the legendary ski lifts of Squaw Valley USA.

Now, I’ve vacationed in five star style in Carnelian Bay, Lake Tahoe, but not like this!  PlumpJack Valley Inn combines the charm of a mountain with the refinements of a world-class hotel.  All directly located at the base of the Squaw ski resort and village.

One of my favorite wines and winter activities all wrapped up in one location.  Who would have ever thought that a trip to Napa would land me in Lake Tahoe?

PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn is at the top of my birthday and BUCKET list this year!
