Tryon Creek State Park

Many people have the notion that an “adventure” must take place miles and miles away at an out-of-the-ordinary location. Today, I went on a hike that was in the “backyard” of many of us who live in the Portland-metropolitan area. Myself and my friend, Kinaly Khamvongsa, travelled to Lake Oswego and explored the Tryon Creek State Park. There are many trails throughout the park and park-goers can enjoy a short loop or travel along all the routes for a multi-mile adventure!
Along the trails there were many different species of plant life and animals as well! Within the Nature Center visitors can check out local sightseeing “celebrities” including the Banana Slug and the Great Horned Owl that have been seen throughout the park. There are also informational signs posted throughout the trails to give guests of all-ages a little bit more information than what appears at first glance.
Not only are there hiking trails but also pathways for bicycles, all-abilities, and even horses! A note to hikers is that the horse paths tended to have visible “signs” that horses had been there so be sure to watch your step! I would highly recommend the Tryon Creek State Park as a great hike for a post-workday hike or afternoon adventure with the kids that is insightful, natural, and free! Posted are some pictures that I took from the hike and be sure to grab a map to make sure you get back to Square One as there are a ton of different ways to maneuver once you’re on the trails themselves!
